Features and benefits

Danotherm TRV resistors are high-power resistors cooled by forced air. The resistor unit is constructed from multiple steel tubes that are welded together to form a steel frame, and the resistive elements consist of an active wire enclosed within stainless steel tubes. These tubes contain magnesium oxide, which possesses excellent electrical and thermal properties. The steel tubes are enclosed within a stainless steel frame made from either AISI 304 or AISI 316L.

As an alternative, the primary resistor elements can be fabricated from AISI 304, AIS 316L, or AISI 321 steel, or from the highly temperature and humidity-resistant INCOLOY 800/825 alloy. Nominal power ratings for Danotherm TRV resistors vary from 50 to 275 kW, with working voltages reaching up to 1000 VAC / 1400 VDC. Depending on the specific resistor model, the overload capacity can reach up to 7 times the nominal power rating for a 5-second pulse/120s or 5 times the nominal power rating for a 10-second pulse/120s.

The standard electrical configuration consists of a single resistor unit. Optionally, these resistors can be utilized in star, delta, or split topologies. TRV resistors achieve cooling through forced air circulation and are equipped with either two or four marine-rated ventilators, depending on the model. TRV resistors also come with standard heaters for moisture protection.

Custom resistor designs and the provision of Certificates of Conformity or Authenticity are available upon request. Danotherm offers the option to arrange a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at its facility, with or without the presence of accrediting companies such as Lloyds, DSV, or RINA. Danotherm TRV resistors are rated IP65/IP66 and are suitable for use in demanding environments. Typical applications include their use as braking resistors in cranes and winches for harbor or marine applications.
