Features and benefits

Danotherm CBS resistors are robust power resistors renowned for their exceptional pulse load capacity. Constructed using either mica wirewound or helix self-supporting coils, they are housed within fully insulated aluminum enclosures. These components hold UL approval and are celebrated for their unwavering reliability.

Cooling for CBS resistors is primarily facilitated by convection, though enhanced heat dissipation can be achieved through forced air cooling. These versatile resistors find extensive application as dump resistors in wind and gas turbines, as well as discharge resistors for supercapacitors.

The CBS resistors adopt a modular design approach, allowing for the mechanical attachment of up to four enclosures to create larger units with augmented nominal power ratings and heightened pulse load capabilities. The single housing’s nominal power ratings span from 445 W to 4150 kW, while the maximum working voltage for CBS resistors stands at 1000 VAC / 1400 VDC.

The aluminum extruded housing has been meticulously tailored to suit the intended purpose. Thermal expansion feet are incorporated to ensure the resistor heats up without undergoing mechanical stress. Furthermore, integrated slots are provided for the attachment of PT100 elements. An optional integrated thermal switch is available for overtemperature signaling.

The choice of aluminum as the housing material stems from its qualities: non-corrosive, non-magnetic, lightweight yet durable, and an excellent conductor of heat. It’s important to note that these resistors are fully insulated and devoid of any external live components.

Depending on the specific length and resistance value of CBS resistors, they can handle overload conditions ranging from 20 to 60 times the nominal power rating. These overload capacities are applicable to single 5-second pulses occurring once every 30 minutes.

For those with specialized needs, customized and OEM versions of CBS resistors are readily available upon request.
