Features and benefits

CBT resistors serve as robust power resistors designed to handle high-pulse loads, primarily finding their application as brake resistors within drive systems. These resistors are encased in aluminum housings featuring cooling fins that significantly increase their surface area. This design facilitates quicker cooldown times, thereby reducing power cycle durations.

CBT resistors come in various nominal power ratings, ranging from 380 to 4070 watts per housing, and can be configured with up to four housings, achieving a total power rating of 12kW. They operate within a working voltage range of 1000 VAC / 1400 VDC.

The aluminum extruded housing has been meticulously tailored to meet specific application requirements. Thermal expansion feet ensure that the resistor can heat up without incurring any mechanical stress, while integrated slots allow for the attachment of PT100 elements. An optional integrated thermal switch is available for signaling overtemperature conditions.

The choice of aluminum as the housing material is based on its corrosion resistance, non-magnetic properties, lightweight yet durable nature, and exceptional heat-conducting capabilities. Furthermore, these resistors are fully insulated, eliminating the presence of external live parts.

The main resistive element in CBT resistors is a Nickel-Chrome alloy known for its low thermal drift, ensuring stable resistance values even when subjected to varying temperatures. These resistors incorporate high thermal-capacity materials such as silicon oxide or aluminum oxide, enabling them to handle high overloads. CBT resistors can withstand 10 to 25 times their nominal power rating for a 5-second pulse, depending on the specific resistor and ohm value.

CBT resistors offer two connection options: cable connection and box connection. Cable connections feature protection ratings ranging from IP50 to IP65, while box connections span from IP00 to IP65.
