Features and benefits

CVS resistors, offered by Danotherm, represent the largest aluminum-housed resistor models in their current product lineup. They find primary utility in demanding scenarios, such as high-power pulse load applications like those encountered in Low Voltage Ride Through systems for wind turbines or as brake resistors within drive systems. These resistor components are UL-certified, ensuring a high level of reliability.

The CVS resistor exhibits a modular design, allowing for the assembly of larger units with increased nominal power ratings and enhanced pulse load capabilities by combining a maximum of four housings. A single housing can be configured with a power rating ranging from 1390 W to 4350 W. In terms of operating voltage, CVS resistors can manage up to 1000 VAC or 1400 VDC.

The housing is constructed from aluminum extrusion, meticulously tailored for its intended application. Thermal expansion feet facilitate controlled heating without subjecting the resistor to mechanical stress. Integrated slots enable the attachment of PT100 sensors, and an optional integrated thermal switch is available for overtemperature detection. Additionally, a standalone thermal switch can be added as an alternative.

The selection of aluminum as the housing material is driven by its non-corrosive, non-magnetic, lightweight, durable, and excellent heat-conductive properties. These resistors are fully insulated and devoid of any external live components.

The overload capacity of CVS resistors, depending on their length and resistance value, can reach 100 to 120 times the nominal power rating. This overload capability applies to a 5-second pulse occurring once every 30 minutes.

Typical applications for Danotherm CVS resistors include their use as dump resistors in wind and gas turbines, as well as supercapacitor discharge resistors. Customized and OEM variants are available upon request, and dimensions can be adjusted to meet specific requirements.
