The final episode of Power electronics along the Maas is now available!

We are happy to present, ‘Power electronics along the Maas’, our new video series! Join Hans Segers as he explores the world of power electronics from Rotterdam, along the Nieuwe Maas.

Watch the final episode

Hans Segers has highlighted the crucial role of advanced power electronics across three episodes. From safely integrating sustainable energy sources to enabling safe and smart onboard DC power grids.

In this concluding episode, we zoom in on the Astrol solid-state DC breakers, Danotherm brake resistors, Eaton supercapacitors, and morEnergy gridDNA measurement solutions. Discover how our expertise shapes local and international maritime DC networks. This is a must-watch for anyone interested in power electronics, sustainability and maritime technological advancement. Directly from the Maas (the New Meuse river in Rotterdam the Netherlands).

The series delves into power electronics, the field of engineering that deals with the efficient conversion, control, and switching of electrical power using electronic devices. This is crucial for the maritime industry, especially as Rotterdam, the city of Jules Deelder and Erasmus, strives for reduced CO2 emissions and quieter operations for its ships. Astrolkwx provides solutions for hybrid and fully electric boats, enabling shore power connections to reduce diesel reliance.

Episode 1: Hans Segers about power electronics and the liquid cooled rectifier

The liquid cooled rectifier

One of the key solutions in this first episode is the liquid-cooled rectifier. This super-compact, 3-phase, isolated, water-cooled rectifier is positioned between the AC (for example a diesel generator set) and the DC network in a system. It features various components like sensors and snubber circuits, with connections for a water and glycol medium to dissipate heat. Our liquid cooled rectifier has a 3 x 690 V AC input with a 3500 V DC output.

Episode 2: The crucial role of Littelfuse blocking diodes in marine DC networks

Blocking diodes by Littelfuse

In this video, we’ll dive deeper into the world of our Littelfuse blocking diodes and discover how these small but powerful components are essential for safety and efficiency in marine DC systems.

Did you know that reverse current can cause significant damage to batteries, inverters, and even cables? It can lead to overheating, damaged circuits, and in the worst case, even fires. Fortunately, blocking diodes offer the perfect solution!
