Features and benefits

Danotherm WHBS resistors are liquid-cooled, high-powered brake resistors tailored for use in challenging environments such as marine and harbor applications. They employ freshwater or water mixed with glycol as the cooling medium. The WHBS 16 series resistors are characterized by a fully welded steel tank with tank lengths spanning from 300 to 2100 mm. The resistive components consist of steel tubes securely welded to a flange positioned within the tank. The inlet/outlet ports are situated either on the upper side of the tank or at the rear side.

WHBS 16 series resistors offer power ratings ranging from 6 to 200 kW, and the operational voltages are 1000 VAC / 1400 VDC. Depending on the resistance, these resistors can handle up to four times the nominal power rating for a 5-second pulse/120s.

The standard material for the tank, connection box, and resistor elements is AISI 304 stainless steel. Optionally, AISI 316 stainless steel can be used for the tank and connection box. For the resistor elements, you have the choice of AISI 316 / AISI 321 stainless steel or INCOLOY 800 alloy. Thermal protection is included as a standard feature, with moisture protection, air bubble protection, and a PT100 temperature sensor available as additional choices.

WHBS 16.3 series resistors with M6 terminals or cable lugs lack a connection box and carry an IP00 rating. WHBS 16 resistors equipped with a connection box boast IP65 / IP66 ratings.

For high-voltage applications, WHBS 32 series resistors are designed with a fully welded steel tank measuring 485 mm. These resistors employ mica-insulated resistor elements and have coolant inlet/outlet ports situated on the rear side. Power ratings for WHBS 32 series resistors span from 3 to 6 kW, with working voltages ranging from 1000 to 3000 VAC. Depending on the resistance, they can handle up to ten times the nominal power rating for a 5-second pulse/120s.
