Features and benefits

Danotherm CBR resistors are UL approved, passive air-cooled power resistors in compact aluminum housings that offer excellent ingress protection against solids and liquids. They are mostly used in small inverter drives systems as brake resistor.

Aluminum is chosen as the material for the housings because it is non-corrosive, non-magnetic, lightweight yet durable, and is an excellent conductor of heat. The resistors are fully insulated and have no external live parts. The main resistive element is a Nickel-Chrome alloy with very low thermal drift for increased accuracy.

The nominal power ranges from 160 – 1700W with natural air convection cooling. This series has cooling fins to optimize heat transfer. Higher power can be achieved by forced air cooling. Standard working voltage according to UL: 600VAC / 850VDC and according to IEC: 690VAC / 975VDC. Optional a 1000VAC/1400VDC version is available.

Standard ingress protection is IP50, optional IP54 or IP65 can be offered. The electrical connections are 300mm long high temperature cables. Other lengths are available on request. The cables are AWG 16 – AWG 10 and are selected on Ohm value and nominal power rating.

The overload factor depends on the Ohm value and the size of the resistor and range between 8 to 18 times the nominal power rating over 5 seconds. An integrated thermal switch is available as an option for overtemperature signaling.
