Personal consultation

Our power electronics experts are available to discuss all your technical challanges.

Our Astrol ultra-fast DC circuit breakers are critical components in modern direct current (DC) power distribution systems. Designed to interrupt fault currents within microseconds, it protects sensitive electrical equipment from damage caused by short-circuits or power overloads. As the world moves toward more electrified and digitized energy networks, the demand for reliable and efficient DC protection has never been higher. From marine, renewable energy, data center power systems, our solid-state DC breakers are essential for ensuring safety, stability, and uptime. Our range of Astrol solid-state DC breakers is initially designed for maritime applications and ranges from 0.35 kA to 6 kA with a nominal voltage of 1.5 kV. However the application of our breakers are not limited to the maritime industry. Based on the same system topology we offer DC breakers for data center application.

Solid-state DC breakers with breaking times of 6 - 10 μs

Advanced engineering for high-speed DC breaker technology

Unlike traditional mechanical breakers, an Astrol high-speed DC circuit breaker uses semiconductor-based switching technology to achieve ultra-fast fault isolation. By combining IGBT modules, MOVs, and advanced control electronics, our solid-state DC breakers can detect and interrupt short circuits in just a few microseconds. Typical configurations include rated voltages up to 1.5 kV DC, rated currents between 350 A and 5000 A, and breaking times of 6 – 10 microseconds. This rapid response minimizes stress on cables, converters, and connected systems, preventing cascading failures and extending equipment lifetime.

Applications in demanding environments

Ultra-fast solid-state DC breakers are used in marine DC grids, electric-mobility infrastructure, offshore platforms, and hybrid power systems. Their ability to handle high voltages and currents while maintaining a compact footprint and low-maintenance requirements makes them ideal for next-generation DC networks. Our circuit breakers can handle temperatures from –25 °C to +55 °C, protection ratings up to IP66, and are certified by DNV, Lloyd’s Register, ABS and CCS for use in marine environments.
